Engaging Your Audience on Social Media – Facebook

Engaging Your Audience on Social Media

Today we are going to get a little more specific about what to post on Facebook, when to post, how often to post, etc. Facebook is a great way to engage with potential new customers and retain existing customers – if you do it right.

How Often To Post On Facebook

For small to medium companies with less than 5,000 fans, once or twice a day is plenty.  Have more than 5,000 fans?  Consider posting 3 to 4 times per day.

Think you don’t have time to do this?  Set aside 30 minutes at the beginning of the week and use a scheduling app like Hootsuite or Buffer.  This is also great if you need to post something on a specific date and don’t want to forget.

When To Post On Facebook

Here is a great article about when to post on Facebook.  I highly recommend one around 8AM and then again in the afternoon.  These should be different posts and not the same one repeated.  It may take some trial and error to find the best time for your business, but keep trying.

What To Post On Facebook

People love to see photos and videos the most.  You should make approx. 80% of your posts fun and informational and only 20% about selling/marketing your product.  This is where many businesses fail – they constantly promote themselves and their fans get bored.

Are you a realtor?  Give some tips on getting your house ready to sell or create a video showing what curb appeal is all about.

Do you sell a product?  Show that product being used in different ways.  Ask your customers to post photos of how they use the product.  Coke is having great success with this right now.  People are creating all kinds of fun photos and videos using the Coke bottles that have names or words on them.

Engage With Your Fans

And finally, you must ENGAGE with your fans.  Don’t just set items to post and forget them.  Someone leaves a review – say thank you.  Someone asks a question – answer it.  Whether good or bad, you need to respond to EVERY comment left on your Facebook page.  Social media is about engagement.  Don’t engage and people will quickly forget you.
